Asasi Undang-Undang UiTM SURVIVAL TIPS 101 (First semester)

First of all, this is like my first blog post ever since like a year ago, therefore please excuse all the awkward phrases I will be using in this entry HAHAHA. I got into Foundation in Law at UiTM almost exactly a year ago, but I gotta spill the beans for you guys here; about the truth of this course.

First of all, I am sure that all you are well-informed that Asasi or Foundation or Matriculation programme takes only a year (or 2 at most for Matriculation) and trust me, that 1 year will pass by so quickly. As someone who went through the chaotic life of Asasi, I think I have the need to tell you folks that THIS is not the time for you to be looking for your romantic partner, or a fling or anything in THAT context. I knew people who did that and screwed up their results. If you screw up during Asasi... well, poor you.

Disclaimer : These 'tips' I am about to drop is from the perspective of someone who didn't really have a social life in Dengkil, therefore do not expect some social skills 101 to be included here.

I will be dividing the explanations according to semester and courses, and this is for you to be familiarized with what kind of courses they are and will not be too terkejut when you entered the class, LOL.

SEMESTER 1

Everyone has their own firsts at something, therefore you would be finding yourself at one point thinking, "Boleh ke aku buat ni? Boleh ke aku survive?". Some even found themselves thinking that "Alah, takdelah sesusah yang aku sangka, eh?". I won't tell you if I am former or the latter but if you keep that mindset throughout your whole Asasi life, be ready to feel unsatisfied with your results at the end of the semester. I WARNED YOU THERE.

ELC 080 - English for Foundation Studies

This is an English language course to prep you for the MUET. MUET is very important as for you to enter a law degree programme, the minimum requirement would be Band 3 (well, I doubt that they actually follow that minimum thing, no one wants a cukup-cukup makan student to join their faculty, kan?). If you're lucky enough to get a cool and friendly lecturer like I did (Hello Sir Ch*li!!), you might actually enjoyed the class! It is not a difficult class to get at least a B or A- really, just  pay attention to tips that you will be receiving from your lecturer.

Is MUET difficult? Hm, I only knew one person who actually got a Band 6 out of all people in UiTM Dengkil, actually. Just read the damn textbook and practice your English a LOT. If you're hesitant about your English, jangan berat mulut tanya orang sekitar yang pandai English, okay? You can do it!

DIFFICULTY RATING : 2.5/5 (Essay part was tough)

ELC 091 - Introduction to Critical Reading & Studies

I gotta remind you, this is the class where I spent my time secretly trying to finish my law courses tutorials or sleeping 60% of the time. This is the class where they give you a text and you have to find the claims, the evidence, the fallacies used and whatnot. It sounds boring, well- it is boring. To me, at least. I couldn't even finish the exercise book (?) they asked us to buy for the subject. I tried my best to focus on important points giving during the lectures though. As lawyer-wannabes, it is a good thing if you can find yourself being good at finding the claims, evidences and more in the midst of towers of texts. Read the notes, do a lot of searching on what is taught in the class. Imo, the notes in the book weren't really helpful. I watched lots of videos on Youtube for this subject too.

DIFFICULTY RATING : 2.5/5

CTU 085 - Tasawwur Islam

Lots of reading, lots of it. The textbook is small but thick, and NEVER EVER try to read the whole in the last minute, okay? Highlight important details in the book siap-siap or read the presentation slides your classmates made (itu tip yang penting ya adik-adik!). Majority of students will pass this subject with flying colours, so no worries ^___^

DIFFICULTY RATING : 1/5

CSC 134 - Computer & Information Processing

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Till this day, I don't know the significance of this class and that's probably the reason I flopped this class so bad. The lecturer is cool, but I don't have any slight interest in this world towards this subject so I really struggled so hard to understand this subject tbh. Read your lecturer's slides and try to borrow your friend's reference books to get a general idea of this subject.

DIFFICULTY RATING : 4.5/5 (Because I am not interested in it)

Law 038 - Legal Research

Finally, a Law-related subject! It is subject where you will learn about how to cite, finding your sources for an assignment and more. It's a very helpful subject that will help you throughout your university life, actually. I got a picky lecturer (but he was a very fun lecturer to be around!) and my assignments keep getting rejected but really, it was OUR fault for not noticing the mistakes earlier, too. You will get a chance to go to libraries with law-related material and if you love law, it is very exciting to be a step closer towards your dream.
For this subject, I made my own notes- very simplified ones. You should make one on your own too! Read your notes, compare it with your friends and jot down important ones. I am not trying to tell you to take this subject lightly, but it is almost impossible for you to get a FAIL on this one.

DIFFICULTY RATING : 2/5

Law 012 - Introduction to Law I

This is fully theory-based course. You will get to learn about different views from different jurists from different school of thoughts. This is where you need to practice your memory skill, really. There's a lot of reading and based on my experience, I actually forgot 50% of what I was taught in class the moment I stepped out of the room, really. And THAT- my ladies and gentlemen, is not something you should be experiencing. Focus on what your lecturer is saying , jot down every f*cking details he/she stressed about, not chit-chatting with your friends at the back or answering your boyfriend/girlfriend's texts. Some people failed this paper and they have to repeat the whole course the next semester. Read your textbook like it is your twitter timeline, remember all the jurists, make your own notes since things in the book can get all twisted and lengthy.
DO A LOT OF PAST YEARS.

DIFFICULTY RATING :3.5/5 (I was going to give it a 4 but hm...)

Law 016 - Introduction to Government and Policies

I almost cried when I got my first test paper back. I was so shocked because I didn't expect that I could be this stupid, honestly. Almost whole of the class almost ripped their papers out of frustration, but we all decided that we should study harder for this subject. Let me tell you- this subject might sound easy when you're studying it, but wait for the real test. I thought I did well but Sir Ehem ehem think I didn't. My answers were exactly the same as my housemate who got a 20/30 but I got a big fat 8 LOL. I am still shocked but really guys, PLEASE ASK YOUR LECTURERS THEIR STYLE OF ANSWER BEFORE THE EXAM if you don't want to f*ck up and repeat this course for the next sem. I know I mentioned that you have to make your own notes blablabla but THIS IS THE ONE you have to be looking forward to the most. Compare the notes you got from i-learn with the notes from your lecturers. Things can get mixed up like a melted ABC and before the exam, it is very crucial to ask your lecturers every single question across your mind. Expect for the worst, and the worst will not come. (Is that even understandable???)

Oh yeah, this subject is about history, the court hierarchy and basically an intro course for the subject in second semester which is..... I will let you know when I want to let you know haha.

DIFFICULTY RATING : 4.5/5 (You genius folks might not get the rating if you get a very lenient lecturer though. Just pray for the best!)

---------------------

That's it, you have only 7 subjects for the first semester. Don't play around in your first semester, kids. I know that it would be tough to try to adapt to new environment and whatnot, but there is always a first in everything. I am sorry if this ~Survival Tips 101~ doesn't seem to be much of a help since your kakak here is not really good at remembering things. F*ck up your first semester, you're basically f*cked up for second semester. Bad GPA for first sem? You won't even get called for any interview (if you still want to pursue law degree). I kinda regretted not studying harder in first semester though, and I should've been more strict towards myself, hm. I don't want you folks to be losing motivation in your semester, so I would like to tell you that I am just an average-y student, things that I find difficult might not be so for you, you know! Good luck in all roads of your life!

Wait for the 2nd semester post, I might be posting it in......another eternity.
See ya when I see ya!!
